Peter van Zyl is committed to leading the company to the top in the highly potential retail sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having entered the Indonesian insurance market since 28 years ago, Allianz Utama Indonesia began as a representative office and has been thriving with 7 branch offices and 22 marketing offices throughout the archipelago. This year it starts aiming at the country\u2019s retail sector and simultaneously strengthens&nbsp; its hold over the commercial sector which is the largest contributor to its revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur business model is changing this year,\u201d President Director <strong>Peter Van Zyl<\/strong> explained to <em>Warta Ekonomi<\/em> team at Allianz Tower, Jakarta, on February 23, 2018. He believes there is still a lot of untapped potential in the retail sector. Indonesia\u2019s economic growth is the fourth fastest in the world with a 250-million population and a relatively low insurance penetration level. Now there are 55 million skilled workers having disposable incomes. To capture the opportunities, it teams up with the best players in diverse industries to provide solutions for customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Digitalization<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The journey towards a digital-based insurance company is not easy and brings large impacts. \u201cI realize in this transformation process we can\u2019t please everyone. But to survive in the industry, courage to change is one of the keys to survival in the industry. We must show our ability and courage to achieve goals,\u201d he elaborated on the significance of&nbsp; transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support the processes, the company\u2019s human resources are provided with various technical and non-technical skills enhancement trainings. \u201cThey must be prepared to cope with the dynamics of insurance industry and the world,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Big data is also crucial in the sustainable transformation agenda towards the goal of becoming the market leader in Indonesia and Asia. He predicted there will be a surge of demands in the retail sector in the next 1-2 years. \u201cWhen that day comes, we\u2019re ready to serve a wider range of customers as their satisfaction matters most to us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides satisfaction, trust is of the essence. \u201cWe\u2019re continuously striving to become an insurance company with a zero tolerance level against fraud and the best in customer protection.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inclusivity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under his leadership, Allianz Utama has received a number of prestigious awards. &#8220;However, my highest personal achievement is when watching people work happily in the company,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All this is achieved thanks to inclusivity. One of the inclusivity realizations is the open door policy that allows employees to discuss with him in person or to ask for direction anytime.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What I like about Indonesian culture is a strong sense of kinship and good interpersonal relationships.\u201d That is what he applies in his interactions with customers and business partners. \u201cWe need to listen to their feedbacks to know their needs and develop suitable products and services,&#8221; Peter concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PETER elaborated on how he creates an inclusive workplace for his staff, which he finds vital for the company\u2019s sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a sport hobbyist, he takes part in various sports in which his employees also participate. \u201cI used to play rugby and other athletic sports\u201d said he. Unfortunately, due to injuries, Peter had to find another sport. \u201cI play golf these days,\u201d stated the man who passes on the passion of sport to his children as he supposes sports can hone one\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His biggest motivation to work is not for the sake of his own attainment. \u201cThe motivation to achieve the best at work every single day is my family,\u201d he spoke while casting a fatherly glance at his sons\u2019 photographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his spare time, this friendly man brings his family to private and corporate social events to remind his children of the fact that there are still many others in dire need of help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to moving to Jakarta, his family had lived in Singapore for 11 years. &#8220;I love Indonesia because it enables us to learn a lot and fight for something,\u201d he asserted. Menurut beliau, masih banyak potensi tersimpan di sektor ritel yang belum tersentuh, sehingga sektor ini cukup menjanjikan untuk bisnis asuransi umum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Digitalisasi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perjalanan Allianz Utama Indonesia untuk menjadi perusahaan asuransi yang berbasis digital tidaklah mudah. Proses transformasi yang harus dilewati tentunya menimbulkan efek yang beragam bagi setiap pemangku kepentingan.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalam upaya mewujudkan visi, misi dan proses transformasi perusahaan, pria kelahiran Afrika Selatan ini menyadari akan pro dan kontra dalam perjalanannya. Peter memprediksi akan ada permintaan tinggi di sektor ritel dalam 1-2 tahun ke depan. Dan bila saat itu tiba, kami telah siap melayani nasabah yang lebih luas lagi. Bagi kami yang terpenting adalah kepuasan dan kepercayaan nasabah karena itu adalah komitmen kami.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inklusivitas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Di bawah kepemimpinan Peter, Allianz Utama sukses meraih sejumlah penghargaan bergengsi. \u201cNamun, prestasi pribadi tertinggi saya yaitu saat menyaksikan orang bekerja dengan perasaan bahagia di perusahaan ini,\u201d tuturnya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Semua itu tercapai berkat inklusivitas yang ia terapkan. Salah satu wujud nyata inklusivitas tersebut yakni <em>open door policy, <\/em>yang memungkinkan karyawan datang ke ruangannya kapan pun untuk berdiskusi atau saat membutuhkan arahan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYang saya suka dengan budaya di Indonesia adalah rasa kekeluargaan yang kental dan hubungan interpersonal yang baik.\u201d Semangat kekeluargaan ini pula yang Peter terapkan dalam berhubungan dengan nasabah atau mitra bisnis. \u201cKami perlu mendengar masukan agar tahu kebutuhan mereka dan mengembangkan produk dan layanan yang sesuai,\u201d pungkas Peter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cKami bermain futsal, makan dan berkaraoke bersama agar mereka tahu pemimpin juga manusia.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PETER merinci bagaimana dirinya menciptakan lingkungan yang inklusif kepada jajarannya, yang menurutnya penting bagi keberlangsungan perusahaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sebagai orang yang hobi berolahraga, ia ikut serta dalam berbagai kegiatan olahraga karyawan. \u201cSaya dulu bermain <em>rugby<\/em> dan olahraga atletik lain,\u201d ujarnya. Sayangnya, akibat cedera yang dialaminya beberapa waktu lalu, Peter harus mengganti jenis olahraganya. \u201cSaya pilih golf sekarang,\u201d ungkap pria yang mewariskan kecintaan pada olahraga kepada buah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motivasi terbesar Peter dalam berkarya bukanlah demi pencapaian pribadinya. \u201cMotivasi saya untuk bekerja sebaik mungkin tiap hari ialah keluarga saya,\u201d ujarnya sambil melirik foto anak-anaknya dengan tatapan hangat seorang ayah.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Bila ada waktu, beliau menyempatkan diri untuk mengajak keluarga ke acara-acara sosial, baik yang diadakan oleh perusahaan, maupun pribadi, untuk mengingatkan anak-anaknya bahwa masih banyak orang lain di luar sana yang membutuhkan bantuan.
